what's a highly preferred brake line kit to use for a 83 seca 900 which includes banjo bolts, copper washers and lines? i've looked at HEL brake lines and for the complete brake line go around it'd be about 270$ was wondering what other companies out there make quality lines and whats the price on them. (for front and rear brakes)

I'm sorry, sir.....this is Customer Service. The Halloween store Costumer Service" is a couple blocks down and to the left.

    LOL

Brake lines..........many will recommend going to stainless braided line. For myself, if I were to get a 'kit', I'd order it from Len Chacal at: info@xj4ever.com , Or you can click on the XJ4Ever logo at the top right of every screenpage.

Personally, (and I'm sure I'll fly right in the face of all the warnings out there) my 900's all have their original lines on them yet.

Also, personally, I still prefer the slight give that the rubber lines have. I'm not quite smitten with the harder stainless lines, though I am contemplating them for the Royale.

i do still actually have my original lines but ill need a few banjo bolts and copper washers. but the front brakes on the bike have the issue of locking up and i don't know what i should rule out so i was thinking about just buying a complete kit for all the lines to be replaced along with brake rebuild kits but out of curiosity is there a way to tell if the lines are bad? because i may just do that route and stick with the original ones and just buy caliper and master cylinder rebuild kit. if all fails chacal will be getting contact from me :p

The original brake lines had a factory-recommended lifespan of FOUR YEARS.

THIRTY YEARS is wayyy beyond any designed-in margin. You cannot SEE the deterioration; they get replaced because of their age.

    Read this: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=41400.html

Your brakes are locking up because the master cylinder and/or the calipers need to be rebuilt as well: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=41403.html

The simple fact of the matter is that the entire braking system needs to be rebuilt. New lines, seals, pads, everything. Don't trust your life to 30-year old brake components.

Any advice to the contrary is downright irresponsible and I'm surprised to see HF even hint that original lines might be OK. They're NOT.

I recently saw brake lines for the XJ900 on Z1entreprises website. YOu need to know the accurate length of each line before ordering, as well as the orientation and the angle of each connection. Teir customer service has used to be very helpful.

I have to mention also Rennsports for very affordable SS lines.

As hogfiddles mentioned, if you want to buy a complete kit without bordering measuring or figuring anything, go with chacal.
