I know we all love our bikes, and it is great to see them on the road. What I am curious about, is just how many of these things were built. For example, how many 400s did Yamaha turn out in 1982? Or how many XJ750s were made in 1981? Anybody have insight as to where we can find those numbers at?

chacal and I have been having the same discussion, mainly centered around the 550s but also in relation to the fact that Yamaha produced VERY FEW of anything in 1983. Read chacal's "History of Yamaha" section here http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14576.html for some insight.

Your bike, unfortunately, is the "orphan" of the lot. Looking a lot like "half an XJ" the monoshock-equipped '82 XS400J/RJ series also shared most of its designation with the XS400SJ, which was the old-style SOHC twin, with a conventional dual-shock frame.

Perhaps chacal can chime in with what he knows about production numbers for those bikes.
