Hello, all. 24 years old, for the time being, living in Albuquerque, New 'Me-hee-ko', lol. Work in construction so the wife, our baby girl, and I travel all over the U.S. building hospitals. After driving about 30 minutes from the house just after we got settled in here, we came across a little town named Madrid. Little did we know, this was the location where the film 'Wild Hogs' was shot. Needless to say, there were bikes lining the roads- of all makes. Gave me the itch, ,lol. Decided it was time to take a time out for myself from the business of things and find me an old bike to bring back to life. Well, after days upon days of seemingly endless searching for the right one, I finally found one... an 81' Maxim xj650 on craigslist for $450, just 45 minutes from where we live. Picked it up and got it home, and after a little persuasion, a few beers, new plugs, some starting fluid, and a few more beers, she crank right up. DEFINATELY needed some cleaning and cosmetic work, but that's where my journey into the bike world began. Always worked on cars, boats, etc. (as I used to work as an industrial maintenance mechanic) so I am a bit mechanically inclined. NEVER worked on a motorcycle. Hats off to you guys for all the help that you all have already provided me and the help that you lend to one another. I also have pictures and progress of the bike's transformation on another thread here. Thanks guys.
