I purchased a 1982 XJ550 Seca last year that has 6,100 miles. Very good, but also bad when you consider it sat around a LOT. At first it ran "ok" then performance dropped with eratic idle and general carburetor issues. I'm a novice mechanic and I could have tackled this project and taken a year of frustrating time rebuilding and cleaning my carbs.

While I researched doing that I read all of RickCoMatic's posts and decided to contact him to see if he'd take on the job for me, he agreed, I sent carbs and money and orderd many parts and he completed the job world-class. BigFitz was also another technical expert I relied on as my bike has a 4:1 Kerker and I needed to find out how to jet the carb...he knew of course.

The rack is back on the bike, I have Colortuned and Carbtuned it. Several hundred miles now in the Hill Country north of San Antonio and life is good on my Seca.

Nice bike...awlful nice to have real talent close by isn't it?....hopefully you've learned enough to be able to tackle the work yourself next time knowing that you can "phone a friend" if you get into trouble.

    Hardluck,

Man, I wish I were headed that way. Instead I'll be out of town working.

Thanks, yes everyone here has been very helpful.

My self-definition of being a rookie is that I can do just about any mechanical work but I cannot do it as fast as people with years of skills. I wanted to get my bike ready to ride faster than the half-year I would have taken on my first-time carb rebuild.(I even work on my own Porsche 911).

I have several old RDs and GTs and I work on those with my eyes closed.

This is my first BIG bike / 4-stroke and I'm learning thanks to all of you.
