    Hello,
I just signed up last night to this great XJ site and forum. I replaced the old rusty rear shocks on my XJ today. I ended up having to take off the exhaust suppresors to change out the suspension. I decided to do a quick exhaust test without the suppresors. I really like the sound, its a very pure and raw sound, like my pickup trucks. I was wondering if that would cause a problem to the engine? The 4 to 2 muffler is still there so it should be fine.

Here is a link to my video on YouTube. I recorded this with my new GoPro HD Hero. I love this all around excellent camera so far.

    Welcome to the forums!

Running without the silencer will have no ill effects on the motor, although in some cases you might lose a tiny bit of power. Not sure on the 550 in particular -- someone else will chime in I'm sure. It sounds pretty nice! Although your neighbors are probably ready to stab you...

Isn't the HD hero sweet? I just got the LCD BacPac for mine. Totally worth it!

The bike will be a tad quicker if you put mufflers back on it; they don't have to be quite as conservative as the stockers.

That being said, you won't necessarily hurt anything running it that way; it may be a tad lean so keep an eye on the plugs. As long as you leave the collector box in place, you won't drastically affect the state of tune.
