I am cleaning the carbs on my 1985 xj700, I had a question about the ports on the carbs as the bike did not come fully assembled and the manual I have makes no mention of what these are. From what I gather, the center is the fuel supply, the two lower are vents.. but what are the ports at the top on each carb body? I tried searching the net and no dice.. I attached a photo of the ports I am speaking of. Thanks in advance for any help.

From what I know they are vents to atmosphere that have a tube from them running back from the top of the carbs. Had a quick look for more info but didn't find it. Search for hitachi HSC 33 carbs.

Just took a look at my bike. Those ports have hoses attached that run back to between the engine and air box. I believe Bushy is right about them being vents.
