Hey folks, the reason I took my carbs off to clean them was due to the throttle not turning(I thought I would be able to get away with just putting on a new battery and starting it up, silly me....lol). The throttle cable is fine but the arm it attaches to on the rack is completely immobile. Well, after cleaning the bodies up but before reassembling them the throttle arm still will not move by hand. Should I be able to move it manually or am I going to need to split the rack? I just don't want to reassemble them just to disassemble them again ;) Thanks =) you guys have been a HUGE help.

you can remove the rod without splitting the rack, but if it's that corroded, a carb' clean and re-build will be the best bet.

sorry for the need for clarification but this is the first time I have ever ripped open a set of carbs so this process is entirely new to me. I have the bowls off and all of the parts removed from them such as the floats and needles, pilot and needle jets, etc with rebuild kits for all 4. I did not take out the really small post as it looks somewhat fragile and I am concerned about breaking or bending it . I also have the hats off and the spring and slides out. I also have removed the cold start shaft (is that the rod you are speaking of?) and the plunger assemblies. The arm I am asking about is the one that attaches to the throttle cable, it just flops around while not connected the top half of it anyway. Should that arm be able to be moved by hand? basically I am trying to find out if once I am done with the cleaning of the internal components and replacing the parts that reside within the bowls, will I be ready to completely reassemble the carburetors or is the immovability of the throttle cable arm indicative of another problem? (I hope I am using the right terminology, not know what I am talking about makes it hard for you guys to know what I am talking about. lol)

P.S.- the pine sol trick has the insides of the carbs shiny like the day they came off the assembly line :D

the top link will flop about until it's attached to the cable, you should be able to move the throttle arm smoothly & see the butterflies turn, if not something is jamming, don't force it.

Things could be jammed but they could also be so gummed (varnished) up that they wont move.
If it's not a simple jammed thing, which I can't think of anything at the amount of dissasembly your at now that would jamm, well maybe someone hammering the butterflies shut.........
I figure you are fixing to do a lot of learning about carbs!
There is a lot on this site if you will simply search it out. (saves a lot of typing)

Remember if you can get the good carb soak that I USED to be able to get that anything rubber like throttle shaft seals will get ruined so complete dissasembly is a must.

Also be sure each passage blows clear after cleaning \

    GOOD LUCK!!

wd40 and carb cleaner for the win!! Not sure exactly what I did other then hitting both sides of each butterfly with wd40 and then carb cleaner, rinse, repeat and now BAM! Free movement =)

If you put the Carbs back on without wiring or tying the Throttle Cable hook-up to the Enrichment Rod ... the Carb Linkage gets stuck!

The Carb Linkage swivel-end where you hook-up the Throttle Cable to at the Carbs will get jammed-up under the Cylinder Head and become immobilized.

Starting the Bike in this instance will have the Bike run-away with High revs.

Do not pry or bend the part to attempt to loosen it from captivity.
Loosen the Rack and pull the Carbs Back and lift it out from under the Head.
Tie it up or wire it up until you get ready to attach the Throttle Cable.

Don't pry or bend it. You'll snap it off and need a new 3-Carb shaft to fix the linkage.
