Questionable, IMHO. I've never gotten good results with them. Either it never says the cylinder goes rich, or it doesn't work at all.

I've found that when I'm absolutely sure something must be wrong with the plug...an extra turn out or another carb cleaning and the tool works perfectly. I would recommend it!

schmuck I don't mean to offend, I know you've been on here for quite a while so you know your stuff (And I assume you've gotten your bike to run well). But unless you have a defective colortune plug...I've had your symptoms, and it was because the mixture was LEAN (clogged pilot passages, or mixture screw started too far in).

If "Time is Money" ... the ColorTune is worth $60.00

The ColorTune Plug provides a VISUAL Confirmation that the Hole is Firing.

The ColorTune Plug makes finding the Adjustment for where the Pilor Mixture Screw provides the Air-Fuel ratio for a near perfect IDLE.

The ColorTune is a very valuable aid for Fine Tuning.
    Eliminates "Guess-work"
Brings you to the area of Fine Tuning with the assurance that the adjustment you make is correct.

    None taken. :)

I'd question that statement, if I were you. :p I definitely know more than when I got here, granted, but by no means do I consider myself an expert.

As for the bikes, the 750 idles just fine, but it has its issues. The X doesn't want to hold an idle when it's been run for a while, and that's the one I *do* have a colortune plug for. I turn the mixture screws out (I tried this on 1 and 4) and it will not show rich, even when the engine starts to stumble. The plug I used to have for the 750 definitely had problems with arcing -- a forum search will reveal just how happy I was with it.

I might take another crack at it, or get around to finishing a DIY air/fuel mixture ratio meter I saw online.

I bought one from chacal here, who sells beacoup XJ parts. I find it works wonderfully, a most clever idea.

I'm kinda retentive when it comes to tiny details so I'll be always checking my carb sync & colortune readings just to be sure all's as good as it can be.

remember to use your antisieze on your threads.
