Quick question, but pretty important I think.

So i got the carbs off my bike. (Was a lesson in patience, but i did it. There was one tiny little screw on the engine manifold clip, was getting more and more burred, so frustrating, amazing how the smallest things can be the most frustrating.)

ANYWAY, I had the carbs in my hands, turned them over and out poured 4 bowls worth of fuel.

    Is this bad?

The bike ran ok yesterday. Petcock was left on ON. But today the bowls are full of fuel??

I don't know much about the system but should the bowls be full on a cold engine?

I pulled the carbs mainly to clean out the enrichment circuit. The only prob on the bike is that it doesn't like to start cold. It runs fine once it gets going. I've been starting it with a spray of carb cleaner into the airbox.

that's normal. The floats will shut the fuel off once the bowls are full.

Bowls should be full; floats have that responsibility. Petcock shouldn't flow without vacuum if working properly.

On a bike with EVERYTHING functioning as it should, you may need PRI after it has sat for a week or so. The carbs are vented, and evaporation will drop the level in the bowls after some time.

If I haven't ridden one of the Yammies in 4-5 days, I always put it on PRI for about 20 sec before starting.

Cheers for the prompt response guys.

The bowls are off and actually look pretty clean, i'll put some photo's up tonight. This is a litle disapointing as I was hoping they'd be filthy, i could clean them and she'd start like a dream on even the coldest morning. But it's never going to be that simple.

    No, it's not; sorry.

The bowls do have some pretty important passages in them; be careful not to hit yourself in the eye with carb cleaner flushing them out.

The passages in the carbs themselves, however are TINY compared to the ones in the bowls, and one plugged up passage=less than stellar performance.

    Gotta do it. No shortcuts.
