Not sure, but I think I read somewhere that Yamahas are 5:1? I had the same issue finding a replacement after I chucked my gauges until my brother gave me his Garmin Nuvi GPS...now ive got a speedometer, trip odometer (to know when i need gas) and navigation

Most jap bikes have the same ratio speedometers. I forget the exact ratio, but most Kawasaki, Suzuki, or Honda speedos will work on our bikes. I'm currently running one from a Honda CB350 on my XJ750 and it's actually more accurate than the stock speedometer. As long as the cable is the correct size you should be in business.
Another idea which also works very well is get a cheap bicycle speedometer which uses a small magnet attached to the front wheel and reads your speed with a small pickup mounted to the fork leg. All that's needed is to measure the cercumference of the front wheel and calibate it into the unit. They are very accurate and easy to install. I think I paid less than $18 for one and it works great.
