I just got done re doing my fuses with modern Busses. I'm just wondering if the 4 fuses I have under my seat are ALL the fuses on my bike. 1980 XJ 650.

I can't seem to get my brake light to work (Tail light works, no brake. Not the bulb, not the rear brake switch) Can anyone help me quickly locate the brake light relay? If not I'll have to trace it back from the front brake lever and I'm not over keen on doing that if it can be avoided.

    All help is much appreciated!

Did you disconnect the brake switch when doing the upgrade? I'd check that before you go much further.

OKAY- 4 fuses for XJ650 G, according to my manual. I knew this but needed to re-read to be sure.

I am going cross-eyed trying to decipher my wiring diagram though! Where is the darn brake light switch and/or relay? I need to get this thing working, hand signals are not cutting it.

    Thanks again.

Chadwick buddy, thanks. Can you please help me locate that switch? I did not disconnect it while upgrading my fuse array.

Should be on the lower right hand side of the bike and connected to the brake lever by a wire. Find where it's connected and follow it up. Make sure both wires are firmly seated in their respective sockets.

Okay - there's two switches for the brakes - front at the lever & rear near the pedal's pivot point. Extremely unlikely they've both failed. Check using both brakes, and don't forget the simple things -- is the brake element in the bulb burned out?

Thanks guys. Turns out my GIRLFRIEND fixed my bike. LOL- she found a yellow wire near the rear of the bike which was not plugged in to it's little socket. Having already changed the bulb and the rear brake switch (unnecessary and amateur), I knew that neither was to blame. We took a good hard look at the bike this morning and finally found the disconnected wire.

Now I'm going to get her to rebuild my carbs. ;)
