Rear Disc brake conversion

    My bike is an 83 XJ750R which I understand is basically a 750 motor in a 900 frame it has a rear disc brake I was just wondering do people do conversions like fitting a 900 swing arm in a seca frame and using a 900 disc brake wheel.
    Maybe it cant be done or people are not that fussed about drum brakes. I would think it would be a cool mod for a custom XJ build

    I'm surprised, I thought all XJ750R have rear disc brakes...

    I've put together a list to do the conversion on my Maxim X, as it sure could use it. IMO, Yamaha should have made it part of the package upgrade on those models, as well as the 650 turbo's. After all they do share the same transmission as the Seca 900.

    It can be done, but will require several hundred dollars in parts, and a good bit of fabrication. Especially on the master cylinder, brake lever and reservoir set up (because the frame is not designed for it).

    On the other hand, the drum brake setup provides minimal rotational drag, and less un-sprung weight than a disk set up.

    I'm still thinking about doing it, but don't want to disable the bike in the middle of riding season.
