hi all. was wondering if it is possible to repair a faulty regulator/ rectifier. I've got 2 now that ar'nt working as they should.
one gets hot, and kills the battery in no time , the other is registering 17.2 volts when above 3k revs. I've pinched a good one off the "bensalf's 4 year café racer build" and all is ok.
can the bitumen / resin be dug out and the diodes be replaced ,anyone done this, as new ones are a bit pricey

Dissolving modern potting materials is hit-and-miss and generally involves nasty chemicals. MEK is the first thing that I'd try. Keep in mind that even if the MEK dissolves the potting material it can also damage the circuit board.
