Hey Guys, I ' m retrofitting my setup for pod filters. I know, I need to rejet. Using the rejet calculator I came up with these changes, let me know if I'm close or if I need to order extra size jets, just in case.

I have a 1982 Maxim XJ650 J, Exhaust goes from 4 to 2. ( Added harley sportster exhaust baffles) , added K&N pod filters. I live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa which is approx 850 feet above sea level.

Main fuel JET SIZE : STOCK= #110 replace with #114
Pilot fuel JET SIZE : STOCK= #40 replace with #41
Main Air JET SIZE : STOCK= #50 do I need to change this jet out?
Pliot Air JET SIZE : STOCK= #195 do I need to change this jet out?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Sieggs

Depending on which kit you are going with, there should be 4 sets of jets.
one for a stock setup, one for just aftermarket exhaust, one for just pods, and one for pods and aftermarket exhaust. The manual that comes with the jet kit should explain which set of jets you should go with. From what I can remember I did not have to change the air jets, just the fuel. I put pods on my xj650 when I had it once, you are asking for a tuning nightmare and that is no joke. Good Luck.

Just my opinion, so "nobody" flame me please, but I never had good luck or performance with pods.

I get much better performance, and better fuel economy with a K&N filter that goes in the airbox.

    Read the Small Print!

They don't guarantee you any increase in performance.
    Pods don't come with Instructions.
    Only suggestions.
You won't ever run-out of suggestions.
Everybody will tell you to try and see what happens when ...
    Try this.
    Try that.
    Try something else.
And if that don't work, you can try a few more things, before trying a few more things, this time without doing something that didn't work the last time, because you're doing something this time you either did or didn't do before.
Then, you start getting confused because you can't remember if you tried doing it one way without something you thought you added but didn't and forgot to add thinking you did.
That's where it really gets confusing.
Because you'd like to get it right the next time because you almost had it right the last time but can't remember what you did and it doesn't matter anyway because nothing you do is going to give you what you need.
But is sure looks good with the Pods on there.

. . . But the 650 Maxim has milder cam timing, and may be more forgiving to pods. Sounds like Sieggs_3 is goin' for it regardless.

Tell us how it turned out.
Leave the air jets alone IMHO.

The 650 is not forgiving at all to pods, ran them on my bike, biggest mistake I ever made.

Wish SQL Guy would mass produce his fuel injection system. Get a brain box with an lap top and dial your mixture any way you want.

CV CARBS are not "forgiving" to pods, a forum search will net you all sorts of interesting reading.

Simplest advice would be to not do it (remove airbox/fit pods) unless you have to.
