Can anyone tell me the different relays and what they do, for a 82 yamaha seca 750. The problem I am having is my front top headlight wont come on. I am not sure what could be causing this, I was told it was probably one of the relays. If anyone has any info please let me know. thanks guys. :)

The Seca does have a headlight relay but it's more likely your problem is a blown fuse in the fuse panel or broken or dirty fuse contacts but could also be dirty contacts in the Ign. switch or a handlebar switch or connector. It could also be a bad alternator or corroded and burned contacts on the voltage regulator connector so make sure the battery is charging. If the alternator is charging properly I would start by replacing the fuse panel with the newer type of blade fuses then follow the headlight wiring in the service manual diagram with a voltmeter from the fuse to the headlight to find where the voltage stops and repair accordingly.

Back when I was an electrician, when we'd get a call-out to a home to fix a broken light fixture, the very first thing we'd check was the light bulb. You'd be surprised how many of those calls ended with us screwing in a 49¢ light bulb... plus the cost of a service call. Makes for a really expensive light bulb.

If you haven't already, ohm out the bulb and make sure it didn't pop. And if you already did, well then never mind. :D

i've got the same problem, and tried various known good light bulbs.

I ended up in connecting the highbeam wire to the lowbeam connector on the lightbulb. resulting the highbeam switch always on highbeam, and no highbeam light anymore.

In your specific case, it sounds like your dimmer switch has malfunctioned. Current comes into the dimmer switch and out to the headlight. There's nothing but wire in between. The only thing it could be is a bad switch or a broken wire since you've ruled out a bad bulb.
