    Hi,

I searched, but didn't come up with much. I want to replace the two stock horns on my XJ1100 with something a little deeper and a lot louder.

Anyone have ideas what fits and what works best? Any help would be great.

    Thanks in advance!

Well - I'm a big fan of the Stebel Nautilus Compact - it's a compact self-contained dual-tone air horn, and EXTREMELY loud. Just a little bit larger than a deck of cards, actually.

Here's a picture of it at a random site I found:

I just bought air horns from Harbour Freight for $10 They're not that compact. The pump can be mounted away from the horns.

What's the install like Altus? I would rather not modify much. Any pics?

Well - finding the mounting location for the horn and the relay is the hardest part, but you can figure it out pretty easily I'm sure. Then it's just wiring in - with the relay you can put that anywhere, but somewhere close to the stock horn wire is good as you'll use that as the signal wire.

Mountings vary from bike to bike, so I don't have any XJ-specific pictures -- do a quick search online and you'll find a whole bunch

When I put air horns on my Seca, I was able to use the stock horn mounts for the trumpets themselves. I have a Vetter fairing, so I strapped the compressor to that (no need for a compressor on the Stebel - it's all one unit). I wired the relay under the tank and cable-tied it to the mounts by the other relays (turn signals, etc.). Very brief thread here: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=4613/ That thread has links to photos which have more details.

FYI, there's one problem with my set-up that you shouldn't have with a Stebel - my horns actually make contact with my front fender if the forks are compressed and the wheel is turned left or right. It's minimal, but something I would have liked to avoid as my fender is scratched up a bit now.
