I am going to replace the clutch in my motorcycle this weekend (1985 XJ700X). I have the XJ CD and have read section on replacing the clutch, I have searched XJBikes forums for help and read the Yamaha Manual. The XJ CD clutch section is for an air cooled engine I think.

Somewhere in my search of this site I think I read something about draining the radiator before taking the clutch cover off. I cannot find that in the Yamaha manual. I have searched several times again and cannot find a post where I might have read that. Have

I put two separate repairs together?

Any help, pictures, or advice will be appreciated.

    Jim

Boy it beats me too. I looked in the fiche and googled some pics of watercooled Max's; I cannot figure out what is behind the two overlapping round covers above the front side of the clutch housing, directly behind the cylinders.

Take a look in the fiche; look at "crankcase cover 1" I don't know what's behind there. If it's part of the cooling system then your answer would be a yes.

Gonna have to get someone with actual knowledge to chime in...

    According to the Yamaha Drawing:

    The Clutch Cover comes-off clean.
There no Hoses or Water Jacketing involvement.

It's a bit confusing to look at because both Left and Right side Cover and Parts are all on the one view.

((Shows Right + Left Side on same screen.))
