    hi all again.
I'm renovating my second xj600 euro model. and I need some new plug caps, the Haynes says plug caps should be 10k ohm, all I can find over here (u.k.) are , 5k ohm, and I've tested my plugs and they read 5k ohm also. and are the correct ones for the bike n.g.k.dr8es.
so would the 5k ohm caps and 5k ohm plugs be ok.
I measured the existing caps ,and 2 read 5k ohm and 2 read open circuit. bike ran ok on a short test run?

I do not know your coil and cap specs
as long as the whole system is within the spec it is ok.
I have 10k caps and non resistive plugs but if I go 5k caps and 5k plugs it keeps my secondary of the coils and caps with in the spec stated in the manual
or non resistive caps and 5K resistive plugs works too
    xj 550 specs
Secondary side (spark plug wires, without their end caps):
    11K ohms +/- 20% = 8,800 ohms - 13,200 ohms acceptable range
    Spark plug caps:
    10K +/- 20% = 8,000 to 12,000 ohms per cap acceptable range

as you can see there is plenty of TOTAL swing from low end to high end 31k +- 20% to drop 5K of resistance
4.4k on wires and 4k on each caps

it depends on your specs in the end.

if you need 10 k caps our supporting vendor and Member chacal sells them start a conversation with him. by the way your in box is full go to www.xj4ever.com there is an email address there to use ask about these parts

Since the XJ550 stock has 10Kohm caps with non resistive plugs, I was successful in using the 5kohm caps and 5kohm resistive plugs to keep the same resitance. Bike runs great. Of course, it has to run better since one of the caps was open!

I documented in my owners manual and with a silver sharpie on the frame to use 5kohm resistor plugs when replacing. I've owned the bike since new, but want to make sure after I'm gone the inheritor knows the change!

you could go to the caps I listed above to return to 10k spec , but even Len states the setup you went to has the advantage of renewing the 5k resistance every time you change the plugs.

The "NGK" in white letters on the caps also looks gnarly.

thanks for all the replies, I think i'll go with the 5k ohm caps and 5 kohm plugs.
so , do the right angle caps go on 1 and 4, and the 45 degree ones on 2 and 3?

by the way "xj550h" says my inbox is full, which is correct, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to delete any of them
