I just replaced the left hand fork. i just slid the axle out enough to get the fork out without touching the right hand side. when reasembeld the right hand side is tight to the rotor, so much so that it is hard to push the bike. the factory spacer is in place on the left side i never removed it.
if i lossen the axel and slide it to the left a little i get the proper gap between the caliper and rotor.

am i missing a shim? is this something that might be normal because the other fork is off a different bike and have to install another spacer?

if anyone has thoughts it would be great. before i go ahead and install a larger spacer. dont want it to effect the handeling if there is something I am missing.

This sounds like the Axle Collar fell-out of the Hub.
    It's not a Shim.
    It's more like a Bushing that has a Shouldered-end.

When you pull-out the Axle and are busy keeping the Speedo-drive Unit from falling-out and getting soiled ... on the other side ... the Axle Collar falls-out and rolls downhill until it finds a nice place to hide.
Sometimes it escapes to a Parallel Universe. But, a search usually finds it in the shadows.

Look along the path that you carried the Wheel is you moved it.

wow was about to do that to the left side o my bike and this info is quite helpful. if i remove only one side the axle collar may fall out? will have to do this on level ground so as not to miss it but just the observation that it may is quite helpful.......thanks
