You really ought not to tempt people like that. If you want to keep it, pull the listing. Of course, if it is money you are after, hold out. Some bloke will meet your price. What are you asking anyway, $100 doesn't seem like much of a deal breaker.

When I bought my bike the guy wouldn't even come down $20 bucks!! He was certain(and with good reason) that he would get full price. He did from me LOL.

When I bought mine last April, the PO was asking $1200. I offered $1000 and he accepted it without any hesitation. I might have gotten it for less but I've had no complaints about the bike and I feel I definitely got my money's worth.

+1 for that. Good decision, you've got all winter to do your research, get parts, take the time to make necessary repairs correctly, etc. You won't regret your decision come June.

    Re: ALMOST sold her...

I have two XJ's, One that I will never sell (my old racebike) and then I have my daily driver (the turbo) which unless someone offers me 10 times what I paid for it, I dont plan on selling that one either. About three years ago I purchased a seca 550 on CL. His ad had run two weeks before and he wanted $1500 for it. Was going to call him and look at the bike but the ad was gone. Two weeks later it was on again, only this time he wanted $1200 for it. I call and go out and see it, didnt want to run very well since it had been in storage for several years, but looked like it just came off of the showroom floor. I offer him $900 for it and took her home. I drove it for almost two years and sold it on ebay. I hated doing that and still regret it to this day. Needed the money due to work slowdown.Since then I have found out that people come and go but bikes with style and class will always be there for me, begging to take it out for a ride.

    Re: ALMOST sold her...

When I got my 81 Maxim I didn't even dicker on the price. 14,700 miles and I paid $400 for it. Crappy home grown paint job on the tank but the side covers are Maxim black with Caterpiller yellow overspray for that speckled two tone look. I had to clean the carbs, replace the tires which had 90% tread left along with cracked sidewalls but so far that's it. I also bought 8 XS 650's at the same time for $400 total. 800 bucks for 9 scooters. Not too bad!

I ride the XJ daily and I'm slowly working on the XS's. This is the first air cooled naked motorcycle I have ownded since a 750 Virago a long time ago. I really enjoy the sounds of the XJ and the open air convertible feeling. Sometimes I miss the hard luggage but a set of cordura saddlebags should go a long way toward curing this issue.

    Re: ALMOST sold her...

I got my 82 maxim about 3 years back on ebay for $750. All it needed was tires. Had a shop do those for like $300 complete. All in all a decent deal for $1050 I think.
