I made saddlebag supports out of 1/4" round stock. I came out from the frame where they're bolted, about 2 inches to clear the shocks. Then I made them come down the depth of the bags, out 90 degrees 4" for the bags to sit on (to keep from touching the exhaust when fully loaded) then back up to the rear mount.
I just took a bunch of measurements, cut, heated and welded them together. It took me about an hour to make them. Then I just painted them black to protect them from rust. The bags are actually held onto the supports with thick wire ties. Now to remove the bags, I just unbolt the mounts and they come right off.

Looking at them from the rear, they're shaped like this: l_
    l
    l
    l___

Sorry, not able to get a photo right now (she has the camera today) but just an idea -
I used 1/4" round stock for the braces. I attached (welded) a piece of 1/4" flat stock to the ends and drilled holes to bolt them to the frame rails on the bike (where there were bolts already) It took a bit of measuring and positioniing of the bags to get them just where I wanted them (to clear the shocks and mufflers on each side) If you have access to a welder, it's about as easy a project as you can get.

Now there's a good idea for temporary applications. I leave my bags on all the time, but that's about the best idea I've seen so far if you want to remove the bags.
