I thinking a scooter 250cc or larger would be a better commuter option than my XJ. Anybody out there have any experience with them? What can you tell me?

If you have a lot of money you could get a large scooter. But here in my area scooter priced have gone through the roof. A couple of years ago you couldn't give them away. Now they are super expensive and I might add there are alot of chinise junk out there that are passed off as good scooters for high dollars. If you look at Yamaha and Suzuki or even Honda machines they are good quality but big bucks also. If it were me I would just run what you have and call it good.

My friend got an Aprilia SportCity 250cc. His commute is about 10 miles each way.
It is quick and will keep up with traffic over 70mph. No shifting and upright seating. His other ride is a sportbike, which is getting old for the riding position.

Prices for even well used 1980's Helix is very high.

Another guy has a 150cc Chinese unit and he has had just a couple issues, but he is commuting nearly 30 miles each way. The issues were from the American assembler.

Got a friend that picked up a used 2004 Lifan 150 to commute with for $400. I can see using it to run local, like less that 5-8 miles or so, but 30miles one way! Thats just torture plain and simple! He's already looking for a real bike.

I commute comfortably with the XJ650G as well as with the XS750 25miles each way. I cant imagine doing that everyday with anything lighter or less power.

    I test drove a Piaggio BV-250
Way more fun than it should've been .. :)
17" wheels, very peppy and quiet....
So quiet I thought it had stalled at a light....

I have a QLink Commuter 250 which looks like a mini Gold Wing. It runs good and has no problems running 60/65mph and gets around 75mpg. It is for sale. The only reason that I am selling it is because I live in the sticks and it isn't big enough for the interstate. When I lived closer to the big city, I rode it everywhere. I have taken quite a few 100-150 mile rides on it. Marine36, if you are interested in looking at it, send a pm.
