    Hey folks
New Maxim 750-XN rider in southern Ontario for the past week.
Dutifully reading this list, and the xjbikes site, and I just order my CDs.

Only had it a week but done about 400km so far, and this was a brand new noise this morning. It's a seemingly excellent condition bike. 43,700km. Just saftied on the weekend by PO.(new steering bearings was all). Apparently it had new carbs dealer installed two years ago and that looks true. Sounds like he winterized it well, and I could tell from his other bikes a responsible owner, but he only had it the last 4 years, so I don't know about first owner.

I've been riding it to and from work since I got it on the weekend, so thats only a couple tankfulls so far but, this is a brand new sound on the way to work this morning. Pretty cold day but not much worse than any other morning or night this week. I had actually just filled the tank last night before I put her to bed. But same gas, same station, same pump even, as all the previous fills this wee so I don't think that's related. Bike started about normal this morning, being.. a little tough to get the enrichment just right to start cold (2 degrees Celsius this morning brrrrr)but maybe even a little easier than yesterday (when it was wet). Dry here today.

The noise started the first time I hit 3rd gear this morning. Wouldn't go away till came to a stop. So I experimented a bit watching my speed and tach. It's sort of screechy vibrational noise that doesn't kick in until right around 4,500 rpm. I confirmed that 4 times. It starts fairly suddenly but then it doesn't seem to change frequency much at all. As I speed up or slow down or coast the sound stays same. No worse, but no better, just the same screech. It seems to originate from the front or centre directly below me. And the sound stays until I come to a complete stop, or almost like just under 10kph. The sound stays whether the clutch is engaged or not. Its not god-awful cover your ears loud, but I can hear it over the engine hum at highway speed. Its more of a "oh-oh what the hell is THAT" kind of level :)

    Help? Ideas? Things to try?
