I noticed a couple of metal tabs on the rear fender of my Seca 550 that look like they've been cut/drilled off. Just curious what they are... Every pic I've found on the net doesn't really show anything.

    Thanks!

Those are (were) the mointing points for either a) the stock grab handle (on the left only, from the top of the shock to there) or b) the optional luggage rack (in which case you remove the grab handle and both get used.) They were actually on the frame, and you haven't missed the grab handle since it was never there. I can post up a pic later if you wanna see what you're missing...I've been looking for the optional luggage rack for 3 months with no luck so far...

Yup they were where the grab handles mounted. I always wondered why we had only one grab rail instead of two?? Looks like you should but off the rusted portion so it doesnt cut someone's hands.

Grab rail only on the left because that's the side you pull the bike on the centerstand from...left grab rail only ever produced, the tab on the other side is for the luggage rack or for a grab rail if they used the same basic frame for something else...

Interesting... When I was first looking at the bike, the pictures on Craig's list had a back rest and the luggage rack. But when I got to the point of actually buying it, they were no longer on the bike. I got so excited that I didn't notice until later, and didn't really want them anyway. You can kind of see them in my avatar actually.

Hard to see in the pic above, but you can see individual drill holes across the width of the tab. Wonder why the guy drilled them off? Maybe he found a buyer for just the rack and couldn't get them off any other way... (?)

Fitz, if you're interested, I'll try and contact the previous owner and see if he still has the rack. Doubtful, but I can try... Dino, I'm definitely going to grind the tabs down - my kids love "riding" the bike on the center stand in the garage... :)

    Thanks!

Kinda hard to see in the avatar, but doesn't look like Yamaha factory accessories to me...I suspect aftermarket of the period (there was a LOT of that kind of "universal fit" stuff around in those days) and PO probably whacked the tabs because they were in the way of mounting it.
