No, if he's got it signed he'll have to go and pay the tax on it and transfer it to him. Then you can get it and pay tax on it again.

I saw that one too, wondered at first if it was the same one Manbot13 is selling on here. It's not, I'm fairly certain, as they're from different areas up here.

This ad was up a couple of weeks ago. I emailed the seller, interested in your Yamaha, have cash in hand", etc. never did reply.

Kind of funny to see this conversation!!

I replied to his ad first he had told me, then we couldn't connect because I dropped my cell in a vat of acid while cleaning parts! I got my magic jac phone working and emailed him a couple of times giving him the "new" number. It got me worried because he emailed back but didn't leave a phone number! He wasn't in any rush and doesn't need money. Finally we connected on Friday and I went to look at it. The pics in the ad showed it "as is". While it did not run, it was nearly flawless other then the cut in the seat. He's a really decent guy but wasn't the kind of guy that was going to do a lot of work on a bike. He was more of a "I like my bikes brand new and troublefree" guy. He had bought it from a friend who needed the money and since he was in a postion to help him, he bought it. He hadn't even touched it after buying it. I checked and sure enough, the title had been signed over to him within a few months and the seller had written in the owners name which was why had the title stuff in the ad. All the dust was still on the fairings and screw heads. He really hadn't touched it! I had offered to cover his costs for transfering it to his name since he had cut the price so much from what he had it listed for on CL but he wouldn't take the money saying that was his cost. I paid him what he asked for and got a signed receipt. He lives about 2 miles from me and our kids go to school together. I'll pick it up in a week or two then bring it back to life.....a very good find!

Glad to see it went to someone who will fix it.

I don't know much of anything about the turbo part of these bikes but the rest of it I'm pretty familiar with. So if you need a hand give me a shout.

Also, prettty interesting signature for someone living in the People's Republic of Maryland.

I really appreciate the offer, no doubt I'll be bugging you for help. Interestingly, I've never worked on a turbo bike before and in fact, I only rode one once down at Daytona many, many, many years ago.

Yeah, my political views aren't shared by many in this state......yet<LOL>. I did find it absolutely ironic that while we weren't in this state and after being called every name in the book we were a driving force across most of the country during this past election.

Politics aside, I do appreciate the offer for help when I get stuck not knowing how to test a relay, etc.

I don't know when they'll wise up around here. Thought the governor's election map only had a blue streak along I-95. Too bad that's where all the people are.

Yeah if you get stuck somewhere on the bike give me a shout.

Yeah, I figured out how to "fit" the bike along with 3 others and a snowblower in a one car garage spot, and close out my storage unit.

Once I figure out how to make enough space to work, fix up a few little things on a vstar 650 and my 750 seca...then I'll get to my turbo.

Nobody on xjbikes wanted it for the price I was asking (and I understand), I got too busy to put up an ad, and now I'd just rather sink thousands into it to have fun on it.

JeffK - I'm out in Bethesda, I've pretty much completely restored my seca 750 and learned alot that applies to this bike, but this will be my first turbo too - it's low mileage...which of course means it'll need ALOT!

Well lets put it this way...I know it's sat for probably 20 years and has only 6k miles. I still need to compression test the engine, but I'm hoping it'll pass that test. Everything else........will need to be done. Carbs, intake, turbo, brakes, tires, bearings, forks, wiring...oh goodness the WIRING!!! Should be fun ;-)

Yeah, that seems to be the way of these beasts....they sit for a while then because the carbs are pressurized, they need rebuilding. Then because the turbo is under the engine, it causes the oil feed check to need rebuilding as well as attention to the turbo itself....so basically, I figured everything on the intake and exhaust side other then the pipes themselves need attention....along with cleaning all the relay contacts(I don't even have to do that on 40 year old triples) and we'll be set<LOL>. I figured 200 for the carbs, but little for everything else unless of course I find something broke....so we'll see. I plan on having it done before Christmass so that gives me about 4 weekends to get it done.

$200 for the carbs? Are they missing? Are they vastly different than the non turbo bikes? What all do you plan to replace on them?

They are pretty different, in that they are pressurized (you can't have an outside pressure signal to lift the slide, since the venturi ends up being pressurized. The xj650 seca is the only bike that used this set of carbs (all the other turbo bikes used efi). Luckily...I have a extra set :-D . I definitely won't be getting to mine until after christmas.

You might want to add time to clean the brakes, new tires depending on age AND tread, check the steering head/swing arm/wheel bearings and forks. No sense being on a motorcycle that can GO but can't handle and STOP!

I had looked around and this is what I found so far..

Carb kits $40 bucks or so each x 4 =$160
Carbs complete o-ring kit about $30=$30
    total--------------$190.00

Have I missed something? Or do you know a cheaper place to buy the parts? I figured if I was pulling the carb rack, I'd replace everything before I reassemble them. Too many times I've "cheaped out" on carb work and then had it come back to haunt me with problems later when I try to start and run the machine. I'm not going to take any chances with this one, I'll do it correctly from the start.

I laughed about the brakes comments...I ride H2's, I'm used to not being able to stop<LOL>! Yes, the tires, brakes I didn't mention but they are ALWAYS on the list, like changing the oil so I don't look at them as special for a particular bike.

I'm getting excited about this project though. Sometime I pick up a bike and then don't think about it unless I happen to see it either in the garage or in my basement storage area but I honestly can't wait till I get my turbo into my "shop". This is going to be a fun project and I'm looking forward to it. I think part of it is because it's in such nice shape to begin with. I'm not dreading locked pistons or lots of rust...just some minor work and lots of cleaning and I'll be set!

Yeah PM Chacal (Len) for sure. I haven't bought carb kits in a couple years but I don't think they're $40 each carb. $40 for the 4 sounds more right. In fact another member here posted he got his, not for a turbo, for $49 for the 4.

    Uh oh<ROTFLMAO>,

I've seen those "3 kits for 40 bucks" or in your friends case, 4-49. Generally, they come with everything wrong, sometimes even the gaskets are wrong!

I bought a set of cheapies for one of my triples and each kit came with THREE needles and THREE main jets, none of them marked!! Even the float valves were different in each kit! Junk....cheap, but pure junk.

I learned the hard way. I usually shy away from anything super cheap or with the "keyster" name attached. Most times, unless the bike has serious mileage, you can ultrasonically clean most of the brass and buy new gaskets and o-rings. I'll check the vendors suggested though.

    jeff
PS, I had got the pricing from another forums resident "guru". Seemed like good, complete kits though.

Well if you're getting jets and everything then maybe it's not bad price wise.

The kits I bought and am refering to were just needles, seats and float bowl gaskets. Came with the correct parts for me.

Well I can attest to chacal's knowledge, service, and parts. He's the reason my 750 seca is road worthy today. He knows these bikes inside and out, and averages about 2 days for delivery. Although the whole order is made via PM and payment is through paypal, you'll be surprised how responsive he is.

$200 might not be that far off, if you replace every rubber bit in the carbs including fuel rail orings, butterfly shaft V-rings, enrichment circuit and pilot adjustment screw o-rings, and I don't think those come in a kit. Throw in float bowl gaskets, drain screws, float valves and seats, jets, washers, and screws as needed, and if you've got just one torn diaphragm, you've definitely blown the budget.

Maybe I should have been more clear....yes, it was a ton of parts in the 3 kits...but none of them had any markings so you couldn't tell what size anything was. I lined up all nine main jets and got them into groups of 3 of each size by eyeballing them and did the "toothpick test", even on the three smallest jets the toothpick went in different depths on each jet! they could have been anything from 85's to 120's...who knows<LOL>?

I've restored probably 20some bikes in the past few years and most of the kits on the market really aren't very good in quality, at least not the ones from the major players. K&L kits usually aren't too bad though. Typically, if I need brass, I order genuine parts from Pats Small Engine Repair and pay onesy twosy pricing but I get real parts. This bike had a lot of o-rings though so I'd rather buy them in a kit.

Manbot-I've already said the diaphram prayer<LOL>
