How different are the engines on Seca and Seca Turbo?

    The reason I'm asking is because I own a 1982 XJ650R,
and just came across a mechanically nearly complete Seca 650 Turbo.

I was wondering how dificult would it be to turbo a regular seca if a turbo parts bike was available?

VERY. They're pretty much two different animals.

It's not so much the motor itself, but all of the other "turbo-necessary" stuff to support the motor would need to be transplanted as well.

One of our turbo experts needs to jump in and run that list for you; it's not short.

It's positioning and welding all the locating tabs and custom brackets that support all the new gear - would stop most folks.

You'd want to run the TURBO motor due to the knock sensor and oil-to-turbo lines being already tapped, the low compression pistons, and the "zero overlap" cam timing (I'll stop).

That kind of blows because I'm pretty sure the parts bike has a seized engine... it was just tempting because the guy is selling it for $200 with no plastics.

Naw, might want to walk away from that "deal". There are hard-to-find parts such as the windshield, mirrors, turbo, integral oil check valve/bolt but the market of buyers is VERY, VERY small since only 1000 or so still exist in running form.

200 about covers the value of the turbo itself, IF its in decent shape. You can get a complete non-runner for 400-700. For reference, I paid 600 for mine with all the stock parts and the engine turned over.
