I thought some of you might be interested in service manuals scanned onto a DVD by manualguy@laughnet.net .

There is no Haynes/Clymer manual for my XS400RJ Seca ('82), and I haven't been able to find a Yamaha one anywhere, so I was thrilled to find out that the manual for my Seca was on ManualGuy's DVD #3.

    It also includes the:

    XJ750K service manual
    XJ750R 1981-83 Manual Supplement
    XJR1300(I) Workshop Manual 1999
    XJR1300(P) 02 Supplementary Service Manual
    XJ600S 1992

along with numerous manuals for XT, XV, XVS, YFM, YZ, YZF, TDM, FZ, FZR, and FZX.

Hmm, the thought just occurred to me that even these old manuals might be copyright protected. My Seca manual doesn't mention a copyright, but I wonder if ManualGuy just didn't scan that page??

    Any thoughts?

If it is a factory manual, you can bet they are copyright protected. If they have been out of print for a while, they still remain protected. I would not be too hasty to download it if you have ethical reservations. I'm going to look at it myself tonight, I'll post my observations later.

Heck I can tell you right now it isn't legal. You posted an email address which is smart because you have less of a chance of being caught that way. I would farm for a manual elsewhere. Have you tried themotorbookstore.com/ ?

I bought the DVD from him off of e-Bay. The copyright issue never dawned on me until now. Momentary brain fade!

Yes, I have major ethical problems with it.

I guess I'll see if my local dealer can get one of the original service manuals.

I tried the web site you mentioned. All they had were Haynes/Clymer manuals, and there's not one for my bike.

Sorry about the posting. Boy do I feel stupid...

Don't feel bad. My brother bought a repair CD off ebay from a guy who claimed to be selling OEM service manual disks. It was a ripped CD. My brother contacted the seller, who said return it for refund (99 cents, not worth the postage). The seller then stopped communicating with him and my brother reported him to E-bay. They suspended his account for a measley 30 days. Gotta watch those creeps on E-bay. Be sure to let them know if someone is doing something illegal like that. It won't stop them for long but they will have to start up another name (a minor inconvenience but small rewards are better than none). Sometimes the best (and shortest path in terms of time) is the dealer. Don't feel too badly, an investment in a factory manual is probably the best investment you could ever make. Good luck Herb.
