I have an 85 Honda shadow 500 with 23xxx miles. I'm getting it ready to sell to a friend and I cant seem to get it to run right. It lacks power on acceleration and pops a bit on closed throttle. Cylinder 1 seems to be running lean according to my plug chops, cylinder 2 plugs are a nice paper bag brown.

I've pulled the carbs off and dry set the floats, backed out the pilot mix screw on the #1 cylinder, set the plug gaps and adjusted the clutch so the rear wheel doesn't spin while on the center stand.

It's a fight getting it up to 70 mph :( . The problem seems to get marginally better when it warms up. All I can think is a vacuum leak or the valves are out of spec (I adjusted them about 5,000 miles ago). I could deal with the popping if I could get it to accelerate correctly.

Other than this issue it start and idles perfectly.
