My Maxim has had something like that happen. Ill be in a gear and I'll lay on the gas to pick up speed and it kinda acks/feels/sounds like the tranny is slippin....Is it normal? I doubt it but ya never know with a bike that is 25 years old.

Good topic dude, I can relate.

So your revs increase but your speed does not increase. It's not normal for the clutch to slip (it's not a auto!).

    Check:
    Oil change.
Clutch correctly adjusted, not binding and the lever/cable pivots are free and (on the hand leaver) greased..
    Then:
Clutch plates and springs, the clutch shaft bearings are not binding.
Clutch plates and springs are easy to check, if on the sidestand oil does not need to be drained , a new clutch cover gasket made, plates checked for spec and signs of wear, just remember to use a torque wrench on reassembily of the clutch.
