Got a question for my California pals...

So I'm dying to visit my home state of CA, and I can get my bike shipped there cheaper than renting one for a day or two.

If I were to ship it there, would I run into problems riding a Georgia registered bike on them California roads? I know there's a CA version XJ600, but...mine isn't registered there...so I'm good....right? Riiigghhhtt?

Just curious. Either way I'm coming over to ride with ya'll.

    Not a cali resident but.....

Are you living there or just visiting? If you're visiting you don't have to change your plates and so long as it's road legal in your registered state it's legal in any state.

Who's shipping your bike from ATL to Cali that cheap?

I was gonna say, shipping a bike halfway across the country is going to run you substantially more than a 2-day rental.

Ahh that's what I was hoping. I'd just be visiting for a week or so.

I found an average cost to rent a bike $175/day (cheapest I found) * 5 days = 875, plus a security deposit of who knows how much. If I was staying for a day or two, then it'd be better to just rent one. But the longer I plan to stay it'd be cheaper to ship.

I can maybe get it shipped through my work for around $600 round trip with some company discounts and a proper shipping crate (which lowers the price a ton). There have also been some opportunities through the website uShip that could also save me some money.

The shipping is still up in the air really. I guess it wouldn't be worth all the hassle to find out about shipping if there wasn't any chance to ride my bike over there in the first place lol, but this gives me hope!

I've had a jeep in MD with AZ plates for 6 years. The registered and legal owner still lives in AZ. So it's all good.

Check Eagle Rider. They've been e-mailing me specials with like $99/day plus days free. Used them once in Vegas. Worked out good.

You should drain all your fluids when shipping a bike. So you would have to refill them all on arrival and hopefully it doesn't get damaged during shipping.

There's also some LTL (Less than Truck Load) websites were you could look to maybe find a partially full trailer headed where you want and the driver would put your bike on for cheap.

If you crate your bike properly and are able to deliver it to ATL, check out Forward Air. They linehaul across the country from airport to airport and if you are able to drop off and pickup yourself at LAX, SMF, SFO, or SAN your looking at under $200.

They will fork it off your pickup/van at ATL and probably let you break down your crate in their California facility parking lot and fluid up.

They are a LTL (less than truckload) forwarder like iwingameover was talking about. I use them at work all the time because they are the cheapest, simplest, and most reliable. Don't recall if you need an account though, PM me for details, could work something out.
