So I lowered my rear shocks 2 inches by cutting the springs. Now when I put the kickstand down, the bike is basically vertical. I thought I read something on here about guys cutting their kickstand(??). Any thoughts/ideas?

Can you weld? If so, cut the stand in half, remove 2" and re-weld.

Thanks Hillsy, that is what I was thinking I had heard. Does that compromise the integrity of the stand too much or not?

There have been several members that did it. No personal experience though...

As long as you get good penetration with your weld, it will be strong enough.

Another option, if you can't / don't want to weld it, is to take your stand to a wrecker (boneyard??) and find a shorter one. Most Jap sidestands have a similar mount, so you should be able to find one that fits the bill

Heat it up with a torch and put a little bend into it. No cutting or welding. And it's pretty adjustable that way. Ought to be able to get the perfect stance.

Look at the Frame where the Side Stand is attached.
Thee was a Sheet warning that the Frame would split at the Welds where the Side Stand got attached.

If the Bike was repaired by some lazy welder who didn't repair the Frame before reattaching the Stand, ... they just pushed the Side Stand back into Frame and built-up the area with a big, puddle of weld.

I had an extra side stand to do some experimenting with. I just heated it and bent it a couple degrees and re-installed it. Works perfect! I was concerned about the bike being blown over in a strong wind after lowering it now it lays over enough to eliminate that issue.
I inspected the mount tab to make sure it would hold up with the added angle and it's solid as Sears.

    Shucks.

My bike is bone stock and I'd still like for it to lean a little farther than it does on the stand. And I'd like a little larger 'foot pad' on the end of the stand.

You've given me the itch to do something with mine now.

Could you also shorten & reweld your centerstand with success?

I cut and rewelded mine when I lowered my bike the first time. Now I have to majorly rework it since I dropped my bike even more but I like challenges.

I'm sure it could be done but don't know what it would take I never looked too closely at mine after I took it off and tossed it in the corner of the garage. Might be a little harder though I do believe they are made out of tubing and not solid steel but would have to go dig mine out to be sure

The kick stands are a solid piece of steel, not hollow tubing. To shorten it, you just cut off the bottom "foot", then cut off about 1" off the stem and weld the pad back on. Simple and effective.
