I recently took my carburetor to a welder in order to have a broken float tower fixed. He told me that he seperated the carbs in order to fix the tower. so, should I separate them again (after I clean them) and re-align? of yes, how is it done?

Can you post any pics of the weld job? I'm real curious as to how the guy did it.

    Good luck, Graham

If they're all on the rails, ... why separate them again?

Place the Horns on a Level and look for any misalignment.
Remove the Hats and check that they're all square.

Lube the Throttle Pivots with Marvel Mystery Oil and work the Linkage.

    Make any corrections as necessary.
    Don't split the rack.

After checking the Alignment, ... Check the Fuel gallery for Drips.

Seeing as the guy was a welder (unless he's into wrenching on old bikes) I'd make sure that they were put back together and that everything is as Rick mentions. He may have welded the part and then just slapped it all back together, not knowing if he was doing it right or not.

Even if he put them back together right there is a very good chance the 30 year old o-rings on the fuel rail didn't survive. I'd supply gasoline before I bothered putting them back on the bike to check.

that's what I was thinking MiCarl. it wouldn't hurt to check alignment and lay it flat again a table saw or glass, something truly flat once the hats are off as well as lay it on the throats. I just did so today to fix a possible linkage stickyness i was fighting with. its crucial that the throttle shafts are aligned
