    Hi,

After some modifications in the handlebar switches and headlight, I tried to start my bike again. All worked fine, but it didn't start because it was out of petrol. So I filled the tank, turned the key and the light turned on. But as soon as I press the starter button, I get a rattling sound from below the seat while the power shuts down. It happens in a second. When I afterwards turn the key again, there's no power. However, after waiting for 10 minutes or so, there suddenly is power again.

So why can this happen so suddenlyl, what kind of safety switch activates when it happens and what could be the cause?

By the way: is it common that a click is heard from the ignition coils somewhere, every time you turn the power key/power on?

You have a bad battery connection somewhere. Tighten all the connections from the battery to the starter solenoid and starter, don't forget the ground also. Pay attention to the wires themselves, there might be a loose crimped lug.

The "click" is one of the relays located under the tank and yes it's normal.

If you want further and more accurate advice, it would help to know what bike we're dealing with.
