I was playing about with both of my 650 bikes, a 1981 and a 1982. I noticed that the right side side panel / cover has an extension to hide the battery, but the left side that should cover the silly plastic tool storage cubby hole has... nothing. Do any of you know what the factory originally had to prevent the tools falling out? Maybe I will just fabricate a cover from something and attach it... I have tried to look at a number of pictures of the bike and cannot discern what should be there...

    Mike....

I think you are referring to the chain lock cubby hole. Tool storage on a 650 is under the seat aft of the air box lid.

Ok Well then What covers up the keylock that keeps hob goblins in check.... Oterwise what is to prevent the hob goblins from escaping? can you show me a pic of the hob goblin keylock? My tool holder is also on top of the airbox, just aft of the fusebox. It sits on the top of the frame.

The lock slides onto a pin that is welded to the frame and locks in place over the bunched up chain in its cubby. I will try to post a picture later after I get over to my shop and drop some stuff off later today.

Or you could see if anyone has a spare one with a key and use that.

I am sure someone must have one with several members that have parted out some junky crashed bikes here lately. Post in the for sale wanted forum, someone will respond.

Thanks for all the help. You and others make me feel very comfortable here.... I used to think only the Honda forums were comfy. This place is similar...

I just checked on FleaBay for the chains and the lock. They all seem to want 30-40 bucks for em. I can live without it. lol

It's not a crime to sell the bike w/o it. Imo be a decent seller and tell the next buyer it's missing.

If you are selling it anyway , I guess the new owner could find one if they wanted to.

I'll supply a chain and a simple brass type lock and make a simple clasp that is not locked to the bike, so it wont fall out in a corner... That is free for me or at the very least, if I cannot find a lock and key in my box of jumbly parts, a dollar store lock will suffice.... Chains I have plenty...

+1. It should help your selling price.

I'd just leave it as-is. I never had the lock on mine, and nobody has ever noticed that it's missing (even people who know that it's supposed to be there).
