I managed to drop my '82 XJ550 Maxim on the first ride of the season. I'm okay, the bike is mostly okay aside for some cosmetic damage. I'd post pics, but it is currently in the shop getting the oil filter knocked off of it. Last owner completely stripped the bolt and several methods of loosening didn't work.

Anyway, I ordered new Signal Stays (the rubber piece on the signal stalk) from Len here, but I'm not certain how to go about replacing them. I dug around here and in all my manuals, but only found posts from people who fixed the rubber with glue and silicone. Aside from unhooking the battery and beginning to unscrew bolts, does anyone know the best way to approach this?

    Thanks!
    Victoria

the blinker has a bolt that you remove then undo the nut on the mount and blinker body pulls off you have to undo the wires in the bucket or under the seat. it is easy you may have to use a screw driver to open the gap a little spray some wd in there

Awesome, thank you. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be doing a lot with the wiring, which might be over my head.

Really? I just assume if wires are involved I could electrocute myself.

With the key off there's no power to the circuit you'll be messing with anyway

And besides, it's really hard to electrocute yourself with 12-volts! Might give you a little tingle and scare you some, but not enough to send you keeling over. Unless you have a pacemaker. And even then, probably not..........
