i just replaced mt spark plugs from my 550 maxim motor, and 2 out of 4 plugs had no gap in them. they were touching. have started this motor before and it ran, but is there a chance there is something majorly wrong? what are my options?

If they were completely closed there would have been no spark. There is nothing that could have CLOSED them unless the psitons hit them and the only way that would be possible (except for a thrown rod) would be if they are the wrong plugs. Make sure all four are the same, and that they are correct for your bike (NGK D8EA or ND X24ES-U) and correctly gapped (0.6~0.7mm) and you should be fine. Many are the mysteries that unveil themselves when you take over an old bike...

well, i guess your right. if there was no gap......or maybe it was running on one plug? i remember my buddy telling me the headers had exzaust comming from all 4. so i dunno, guess ill see when i fire it up with the new discount auto parts plugs i just put in. when i took out the old plugs i did make sure the length of the new ones were the same.

As Fitz said, they would be closed if the piston hit them. If you put in new plugs, based on length alone, do you not think you would end up with the same results? Fitz gave you the correct plugs to buy. Don't mess around trying to "make due" with improper parts. Get the right parts and tools for the job you are doing and save yourself a ton of frustration.

Don' buy your plugs from ebay, they are $1.89 each at Pepboys or Autozone.
