    Hi all,
There seems to be a little bit of slack on my throttle meaning that when I rev up there is a small bit of travel in the grip before she takes up.
I can see the slack in the cable when I look under the tank..
Am I right in saying that if I loosen the lock nut on the upper cable and turn the adjuster out it will take up the slack.?
I want the throttle to be more responsive..It can be a bit annoying.
    Thanks all.
    Morg.

Yes, there should be an adjustment on the exterior part of the cable sleeve if its stock, near the handlebar where the cable sleeve turns sharp vertically. If I recall it took a 7 or 8mm wrench on my 550.

if you don't have a manual, get one. that's where I found my adjustment how-to for this

Don't take too much slack out. It's supposed to have a bit.

I've ever used my 7mm on either of my xj's that i
    Can recall

if you adjust too much slack out of the cable, the throttle will stay open when turning just because of moving the throttle cable. just be sure you can turn your handle bars lock to lock without it pulling on your throttle.

Check it at full lock in both directions. You should have about 5mm ~ 8mm of play; it will be slightly greater when the bars are straight ahead.

When you get the Throttle Cable behaving, ... secure the sheath to the frame with some Duct Tape.
A tug of the Cable won't race the engine.
