Haven't had my bike that long, but always felt that it was missing a bit & wouldn't idle well at all.
After reading some other threads here (thanks to all the brainpower on this forum!), went and took a look at the plugs I pulled a couple weeks ago.

    #1 & #3 were lean #1 being the most lean, #2 & #4 were ok.

Had some time before my dentist appt. this morning, so I drilled and removed the caps over the pilot screws. #4 was 3 turns out, (haven't got to 2 & 3 yet)

#1 was all the way in!?!?!?! I suppose it's possible it slipped by in the factory, and would explain why the bike was running the way it was. Would there be enough cross over of the air/fuel mix for this cylinder to fire, or would it still get some fuel with this pilot down like that?

I await your response Oh Masters of the XJs

You got the bike built too close to beer-thirty on Friday night? Who knows? But screwed all the way in sure isn't right. I suspect it was either missed at the factory, adjusted by someone else and the cap replaced, or the screw vibrated in over time. However you slice it, though, it's got to be fixed.

Time to buy that Colortune plug you've always wanted. See Chacal.

Yesterday I did the carburetors on a 2000 600 Katana. It has 370 miles on it. I had to pull the plugs from the mixture screws. Two of the screws were bottomed.

I guess the guy that did your carburetors moved on to Suzuki.

Runs better now. Still has an occasional miss on one cylinder and at idle slows down and dies.
I'll take what progress I can though!
