What kind of screwball steals a footpeg - I mean really? I guess they'd lost one but seriously. I'm glad it was the rear one but come one.

I'm pretty sure this happened in my work parking lot too and there's a camera right there that's kinda hidden - most people don't see it cos it's in a alcove.

I'm going to speak to security and see if they have anything on tape. Would be interesting if it's someone I work with - not sure what to do about it if it is - if they get caught steeling on work property they'll be fired on the spot but it's only a $10 footpeg.

Ar you sure that the nut didn't just back off allowing the footpeg to drop off? Retrace your route to see if you can spot it. Nobody just steals a footpeg (unless it's a good friend. But then a good friend would replace it with something rude ;)).

They're not stock pegs - they screw onto a bolt that is welded to the part that sits in the bracket. The back ones I had sitting upright and had them screwed on pretty hard with locktight.

I really don't think it's possible for them to come loose and fall off - the other side one is still firmly attached. I good strong twist will break the glue though.

Probably a long shot but could the bike have been knocked over and the peg broke off? Not clear whether they're folding type or not. I had an incident where I thought my footpeg was gone, I went to put the bike in gear and there was nothing for my foot to go on. "Odd" I thought to myself, "I don't ever put my foot pegs up".

Then upon closer inspection of the left side of my bike (and the massive scuff on the rear fender) I realized that someone had knocked my bike down with a vehicle and picked it back up and went on their merry way. Luckily it was my klr so scuffed crash bars and a bent handlebar was the extent of the damage. But yeah some people have no respect...

nope - this is a rear peg and it's clearly been screwed off manually.

I guess I was looking for some advice on if I should even bother going to security because if they find the person that did it they'll be fired from the company regardless of anything else.

For a $10 foot peg I'm not sure I want to get someone fired but then also I don't want them to think they can f*** with my bike and nothing will happen.

    Karma always finds a way.

I agree that it's not an issue to get someone fired over.

Are you 100% sure that it didn't have loctite failure and manage to backout on it's own?

Attach razor blades to the second one, if thief comes back you can track the blood trail.

Is the parking lot secure where only a fellow employee can get in?
I would follow up with security:
If it is a fellow employee they are not trust worthy and getting them fired is a service to all employees.
If it is a stranger, then you are also servicing your fellow employees by alerting the company to unwanted malicious behavior in the parking lot.
Or the tape may reveal that you rode in one morning without said peg attached . . . wherein the mystery continues.

go to security as a favor, unofficially. tell them this was a prank/practical joke and you just need to know who got you.
then you will know who it is and you can piss in his coffee cup

It could have been the whole bike. Consider yourself lucky it didn't get ripped off and came back in a dust pan like Razz1969's bike did.

The *^(^&^% pixies stole my left bar end weight last week! Sneaky little buggers managed to do it while I was doing 70mph, too. Honestly, you can't trust anyone.

did the imbalance cause you to circle endlessly?
you need to get a gremlin bell to scare them off, I forgot someone has to give it to you or it does not work.

While in high school, I road my big 125 yamaha enduro to school, came out to go home, tried to put it in 1st and no shifter lever. What the crap, someone stool my lever! Lucky my friend lived 2 miles from school and brought me a pair of vise grips. It got me to the bike shop for a new gear shifter lever. Good grief, that was in 1973!

Gearshift levers can also loosen and just drift off. Happened to me and I was lucky to be carrying a pair of 6" vice grips, which got me the rest of the journey. I wasted an hour trying to find the lever, as I knew it was somewhere on a short stretch straight road between two roundabouts, but to no avail. Haven't lost one since, as that replacement one stung a bit, as I didn't have any spare ones so had to buy new.

Loosing a shifter lever is a real bummer. Did that and used a vise grip and that stripped the splines off the shift shaft so we had to change that too.
I'm going to check all my fasteners when I get the bike out in the spring. This brought back some memories I don't want to have again.
