Spark Plug Wire Trick?

Is there some kind of "trick" to getting the spark plug boots to screw into the wire? No matter how many times I turn the boot, or how hard I push, all I get is an indentation into the wires. It seems like an awfully tight fit.

I have a tendency to use the "brute force" method, but I'm concerned that I'll just rip all of the wires out from the insulation.

I believe that this is the original wiring, by the way, not replacement. And, from what I can see, it doesn't appear that the screw every really did go into the cable; just pushed against it.

    Tips, tricks, or suggestions?

    Thanks.
    Eric

Trim about a half inch off the wire end and see if that works. And I mean half an inch so the wire won't be too short!

Thanks guys, I managed to get them on by using a sharp metal probe to push the wires aside and basically preform an opening for the boot "screw" to get a start in.

I didn't want to trim anything off because the one is already rather short and I had doubts about it reaching the plug.
