    Open the Instrument.
Delicately rotate the Speed Cup to the left to see if it is free.

Break the lead off a pencil and insert the wooden tip into the drive collar and spin it to make the magnets rotate.
Magnets should spin and Cup should move.
If the do ... check the Cable and Drive.

Ok I got it a part and it does turn freely. But when I turn it with a pencil it dosen't turn the needle at all no jump nothing. but I can see the trip running.

    How do I fix this?

It has started a wierd thing with head light that I have been chasing all day. for some reason it wouldn't come on I took tank off all relays out gave them a good shake and walla back on. Is this a common problem with these bikes?

    Thanks

    That's not a good sign.
That test is to determine if the drive gears are engaging and turning.
The gears are Nylon and easily stripped.
That renders the instrument in-op unless you replace the gears.

You need a spare working speedo to rob for parts.
Most people don't rebuild the old one.
They just use a used one.

Well thanks for your help on this I am not sure what I will do now. I have the nose off the bike right now and kind of like it I may try and figure out how to mount a Headlight and go aftermarket for the Speedo and tac.
