Hi XJers, has anybody had luck with aftermarket replacement gauges for a 85 Maxim 700? I have a smashed Tach and cover and I’m having a bit of a hard time finding a cover for the tach. I have found a complete gauge cluster from a Maxim X,
Looks like the difference is the temp gauge would this be interchangeable to my bike?

Plenty of aftermarket swaps, no direct bolt-on's as they will require wiring changes and mounting work. As far as stock replacement Dave answered this in your other thread:

    Any ‘85-86 xj700, xj750....

airheads and Maxim X have the same gauge round back covers.

The center cover is different from air cooled to liquid cooled. Liquid-cooled has the opening for the temp gauge, air cooled is solid across the top.

The ‘84+ xv700, 750, 1000, 1100 use the same cluster as the air cooled xj with minor differences
    1-xv700 gauges are black faced
2-some front covers can have round lights instead of ovals
    3-1000 May have gold trim
    4-redline is different

In short, you have lots of options for cover sourcing.

Nice thanks for the super tech download! I have found a complete gauge assembly from an 85 Maxim X, do you think i could swap mine out completly? Looks to me like the only difference is that there is a temp gauge.
