when riding home last night i noticed that the light on my speedometer does not infact work. was wondering how hard it might be to open the case up and change the bulb? the tach lights up just not the speedometer. also the odometer doesnt seem to work either, not the one that keep track of the actual mileage of the bike but the re-setable one to keep track of the miles you put on since your last fill up. i think its too loose and it just spins with the vibrations of the bike, is that fixable, maybe i could tighten it a bit? or just order a new one?

Replacing the bulb is a breeze on your XJ550. There are two 10mm bolts that hold the gauge bracket (and headlight housing). The plastic chrome backing is held on by a few small screws. Remove that and you will see backs of the light sockets - pull them straight out - replace bulb - reassemble.

Can't speak to the wonky odo.

thanks guys, got the bulb changed out, i even had one to replace it with in my bucket-o-bulbs. before i get rid of a car (i used to do demolition derbies) i would always take the bulbs out because they were still good i saved them. and what do you know the bulb from the dash board of a Jeep Wrangler is the same as our speedometers! and now ill be able to see how fast im going at night!

didnt look to much into the odometer just yet maybe another day.
