On my '85 Maxim 700 - I had nioticed earlier this spring that my front brakes were squeaking - so I went ahead and got new pads and installed them as well as cleaning the caliper, rotors, etc.. (Upon comparison, the old ones weren't bad, but I figured what the heck, I'll put the new ones on) The new ones didn't seem to make the noise until this weekend I noticed they too were squeaking. I looked at the pads, but they are still like new. Any ideas? I can't stand that sound when I hit my brakes.....

    Thanks for your input!

Are you sure you replaced the shims correctly? Also, you can try sanding them if they are a bit glazed over and taking the front edge down a bit. Be careful sanding - brake pads contain asbestos.

Fraps is dead on about taking the front edge down. Bevel the edges of the brake pad material that contacts the brake rotors and the squealing and squeaking should go away.
