I ran my bike after a few days of sitting during cold weather; I primed and she started fine. The next day it was nice again and the bike wouldn't start. I know the battery's fine (in fact, I never even leave my keys in the bike and the horn/directionals still work).

All that I get when I press the starter is a single click and the red "oil" light comes on. Any ideas what my problem might be before I go digging?

    Thanks, guys.

Use a screwdriver to short between the two bolt/nut pairs right behind the battery. If that works then replace the solenoid/switch.

I had that problem when I first started working on the bike. I would try to rotate the fuses and if that didn't work pull the starter and clean it. i shined up the commutater and greased the gears, and it worked like new. you can test it out of the bike with jumper cables.

my 550 will turn over fine, but not start if the battery is a little weak, I just learned yesterday. pushed it a mile before I though to try push starting and she roared to life 1st try, even though the starter would barely turn over. So -- charge the battery anyway?
