Hey! i've got a real conundrum here, ive been looking for ONE clock spring from the brush holder assembly, in the starter. But i am having a hell of a time finding one, and would really REALLY like to avoid paying 33 dollars for a whole new assembely if possible. Any ideas where i could score one of these??

    thanks,
    Brian.

Ace Hardware sells springs galore. They also have brushes and brushes with springs attached (if your assembly uses those types). I would also suggest an appliance repair shop, they are bound to have a heap of spare parts. You might also try NAPA auto parts, some stores are really well stocked (unlike mine).

In a pinch, you can buy a brush set that looks similar to to stock ones.

Buy them larger, then you can cut them to the exact shape you need.

It takes a little time but may be cheaper.

You can use the springs from the brushes of most power tools. Cheap at a hardware shop, even cheaper if you have a burnt out drill at home.

Just don't be tempted to stick a pen spring in there. If the replacement is too strong you will get premature wear on the brush and armature in the starter.
