Starter clutch stuck........Engaged

    My newest a $50.00 Maxim 550 has a few issues, lookin fer help.Bike came with no clutch, taken care of, gummed up carbs removed and cleaned.Starts great sounds good cept for the damn starter clutch stays engaged and winds my starter out.Short of splitten cases and replacing starter clutch any shortcuts?

    You might try flushing the crankcase with some Seafom, Marvel Mystery oil or tranny fluid mixed in with the oil. Hopefully it is just gummed up and frees itself because its a total engine teardown to replace it.

    See article/post from Rick Massey regarding accessing the starter clutch without having to split the cases. It's a copy of something I put up ages ago which in itself was a copy from someone who actually serviced their starter clutch in that way. Do a search on the site or we'll see if Rick will jump to the cause. I no longer have a copy and am a bit pressed for time at the moment.

    In any case a search under Starter Clutch on the site should yield the desired result.
