I went for ride Friday, stopped for a leak, after that no Starter.I called out the R.A.C ,when he turned up ,after eventually taking out the starter, it turned out the starter had a massive Null spot.I got the bike home by Bump starting it.Taking the Starter apart Three Ball bearing looking things dropped out...oooops.The brushes are worn to the limit, the copper braiding stopping them going in any further. The commutator is shot four of the copper segments have gone (that what the ball bearings are, molten copper),caused by Carbon from the Brushes Arc-ing across them.Bottom line is starter is History,so it might be worth looking at yours to check and clean,as starter was working fine until it let go.

Time to fond another starter, that one is toasted. I had mine apart for cleaning and polishing last year, I'm good to go.
