    I bought this bike in New Mexico for $250.00 US A bike shop was wanting to charge the PO $1500.00 to get it running. I opend up the carbs all but oneof the jets were in the bottom of the bowls. The tank was full of rust powder I had an extra one. after a good cleaning it fired right up.

    I am going to use a xs tank and build my own seat. I fliped the stock handle bars. I tried useing clubman bars but they hit the tank. I like this site lots of good info

    Hey Spyderbuggy,

    Are those standard gauges in the pick without the top fairing? I have a 900 and need to get some new gauges, so I'm wondering whether there is a standard look I like or whether I will build something from scratch.

    Cheeers,
    oby

    HI, The gages were on the bike when I got it. I haven't seen what other xjs' have , They are nice looking white face with english like numbers.

    The tank went on simple enough. I welded a bracket on the top of the part that looks like a C in the tunnel, the rear mount fits perfict on the xj just cut off the rectangle mount.

    The 1985 XJ700 Maxim that I'm getting has the same chrome pods with white face gueages. I'd say they are OE.

    Looks like this will be sweet. Do you plan to install rear sets?

    Are the petcocks the same on the XS and the XJs? I just bought an XS tank for my maxim and was wondering if they are the same or not on yours?

    You may want to give those clubman's another shot. I put mine on about a month ago and I love them. I ended up taking some small "L" shaped pieces of steel ( like 1/2 inch long x 1/4 inch wide ) and welding them onto the stop located right behind the headlight area. It shortened my turning radius, but the bars dont hit the tank anymore.

    Hey all;
    The rubber mount off the XS will be used at the rear of the tank, also the front will have another brace welded to the down tube. to keep the tank from any side to side movement. Yes the XS and the XJ petcocks were the same. ont thing I should mention is the petcocks hit the air boxes. I plan on using pod filters. I also may try to figure out some way to use the stock air box. If the wife would let me stay home and not drag me all over the place, I could get some work done. My dream vacation is to be locked in my shop 8)
