Hey guys. Thanks for any help in advance. I am getting my bike, 82 xj650 maxim, running again after the winter and when I try to start the bike, there is no sound at all. I shorted the solenoid, and the bike started right up, so I replaced the solenoid... but it still doesn't start with the ignition.

What should I check next, and how should I check it?

The starter button contacts are probably dirty.
Spray come electrical contact cleaner into the gap and wiggle the button around. If that dosne't get you a clean spot then you'll need to open the switchgear.

You can test for continuity and voltage with a multimeter if you have one. You'll test the wires at the small white plastic connector that plugs into the solenoid. There should be 12 volts present when the starter button is pressed.

Awesome. Thanks. You were right. I had to take apart the switchgear and really scrub the contacts.
